
The start line of the 2008 Audi Hamilton Island Race Week Whitehaven beach race saw Mark Richard's Skippered Wild Oats on the course side prior to the start. Almost 2 minutes elapsed before Wild Oats bore away to restart.
The Whitehaven Beach race of Audi Hamilton Island Race Week played second fiddle to the social side of things as sailors, tourists and locals descended on the world famous Whitehaven Beach, the jewel of the Whitsundays.

Peter Harburg's Black Jack pinches the lead from Shockwave Club Marine in the final stages of the down wind run through Solway Pass to take line honours in the Whitehaven Beach Race.
Following the beach party, Hamilton Island’s residents, staff, guests and yachties had the opportunity to meet the members of the 2008 Australian Sailing team and congratulate them in a ticker-tape parade.
